Who should the Professional Development Fund benefit?

Professional Development Fund grants (sometimes referred to as PDFs), are available to part-time faculty to support the further exploration, experiences, and learning that would contribute to professional development in their field of instruction. This gained knowledge can, in turn, strengthen what instructors bring to the classroom.

What’s New Regarding the PDF?  

Beginning Spring 2024 the reimbursement of approved expenses will be handled directly by Adjuncts United.

The AU Executive Committee is working to create a more seamless process going forward as well, and a PDF Admin position has been created. Stay tuned for more improvements!                                                                                     

Unit members who have completed two semesters are eligible!

What types of requests can be approved?

As long as these requested one-time expenses are related to your field of expertise, supported by your supervisor, and you can explain, in the application, how they would contribute to your professional development as an instructor at Syracuse University, these grants may cover, for example:

  • Travel costs: i.e., train tickets, bus fare, air fare, taxi cabs, mileage and tolls

  • Conferences, workshops, and training fees

  • Hotel accommodations

  • Meals

  • Books

  • Supplies – expendables / materials needed for research

  • Entrance fees to museums and performances

  • Course fees and tuition

  • Professional organization dues

  • Subscriptions to professional journals and periodicals
